What is Data Analytics?

At its core, Data Analytics is all about solving problems using Data.
Transforming raw data into insights that enable decision making or increase understanding.
Transforming data includes cleaning or cleansing the data to make it usable. Insights are the “why” - it’s the valuable information that wasn’t immediately obvious unearthed by the analysts. These insights must be relevant and actionable.
Throughout the WYWM Data Pathway you’ll be introduced to the 4 step data analysis process as shown below:

Your course journey

The Data Analyst pathway will provide you with the core skills required to transform unprocessed data into insights that can enable decision making. With the mantra 'learn by doing', the courses in this pathway teach the fundamentals of data analysis through interactive and practical content.

Data Foundations

Welcome to the Data Foundations course!   In this course, you'll learn how to:

  • Plot and optimise graphs using good visualisation principles
  • Interpret basic descriptive statistics
  • Understand and plot frequency distributions
  • Use and adapt pivot tables
  • Understand variants and measures of central tendency
  • Understand misleading statistics and how to avoid them

Data Analysis with Excel

The Data Analyst course will provide you with the core skills required to transform unprocessed data into insights that can enable decision making. With the mantra 'learn by doing', this course teaches the fundamentals of data analysis through interactive and practical content. You will walk away from the course with the ability to apply statistical analysis to real-world problems using Excel.   In this course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Solve problems using data by utilising the 4 step Data Analyst method
  • Transform and manipulate data, including cleaning and joining
  • Conduct exploratory analysis to identify trends in data
  • Calculate measures of spread, measuring an individual value against the whole
  • Deliver a practical assignment using real world data
